Caro Bowl Round 4 - Honda Cockle Bay vs Royal Oak

Article dated: 10 November 2011   Audience: Public

Last Friday we headed out to Royal Oak for round 4 of the Caro Bowl season. This was an important game for us as we make a run for the 4th spot and a semi-final position in the competition.

The tie kicked off with Matt Meredith and Luke Donovan having an interesting game - first set sent to Oliver Statham and Trent O'Keeffe 6-3 with Matt and Luke winning the second set 6-0. This took the match to a super tie-breaker which went down to the wire with Royal Oak taking it 10-8.

Bottom doubles was a fantastic match and our boys really stepped up to play a great match! Henry Gers and James Spence took the first set 6-3 and a close second set 7-6.

Matt had it plain sailing in the top singles breezing through the match 6-2 6-1.

James had a real tough task at number 2 playing the ever consistent Andrew Allan. This was a great match with the first set decided by just a single break 6-4. The second set went right to the wire with James unfortunately loosing the set 7-5 in the tie-breaker with match point being one of the best I have seen all season.

At number 3 singles Henry had a real battle with Aaron McDougall. The players shared the first 2 sets 6-3 5-7 with Henry playing a very sharp 3rd set to take the match 6-3.

Luke was the last match to go on and really struggled to get going as Trent O'Keeffe played a great game taking the match 6-4 6-2.

Cockle Bay won on count back placing us 4th on the competition table; 2 points behind Pompallier and 1 point ahead of Parnell.

This week we take on Blockhouse Bay who have a strong team and have played a round with Heineken Open Doubles Winner Marcus Daniel. This is going to be a tough ask for our team so all the support we can get for our home game on Friday, 11 November will be great.

See you tomorrow evening - play kicks off at 6pm.
